Blanket Posts

Something that is very important to me to explain is the idea behind blanket teachings. I hear many controversies or complaints because of misunderstood blanket teachings.

A few months ago I was leaving a church with a friend after listening to a pastor who I know well speak. My friend asked me how I liked the message and I responded that I liked it very much- I had heard a couple of messages very similar to what he had shared and liked it in the past as well. His response was so surprising that it was almost laughable at the time.

My friend was outraged about what was being spoken at the church and was absolutely flabbergasted that someone could say such things from the pulpit of a church.

In absolute confusion I asked what he was referring to and I realized he had completely misunderstood what was being spoken. I ended up explaining what he had shared in the past about the same topic and explained what I know to be the speaker's belief based upon personal conversations with him. As I did, my friend's demeanor changed and he began to understand and was satisfied at the end of our conversation.

It is my belief that a communicator is responsible for making the best teaching possible and being absolutely clear on what they are sharing. With that said, when I as a teacher teach, there is only so much time to break down every word that I use how it relates to the sentence and how things can be interpreted and overall, the exact detail of what I mean.

For example, one young woman I have been coaching is a world class athlete and competing on that level... Her workout regimen is insane, in fact I would go as far as to say it is actually unhealthy. The reason? Her job is literally to push her body past normal limits physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. This means that for this season, she needs to do much much more self care but no matter what, for this time she will be working out for 10 hours a day and having unhealthy time.

With that said, some people may read that last paragraph and say "Danny is promoting being unhealthy." Since the purpose of this paper is to clarify this particular point, I am going to explain: Absolutely Not! Wholistic health is of the utmost importance to me and those that I coach. In fact that is my main focus as a coach; Organizational Health to promote individual health.

The analogy I use is, I am a singer, if I never took a single voice lesson and only watched youtube videos to try to learn to sing, there are a few things that may happen that are not good. First off, I may develop bad habits without a person watching the way I am trying different exercises. This could lead to having a hard time correcting them later. Secondly, there are things that are specific for every single person, certain people have different voices and so they need to learn to sing differently than the next. Some people have higher voices than others, some have lower etc...

My job as a coach is going to be produce some blanket teachings that will be of some use to everyone the rest of my job as a coach is to specifically tailor something to what fits your life and needs.

Please feel free to reach out if there are things I post or something from a podcast that doesn't make sense or that you don't agree with. We may actually be sharing the same view but it just looks different in the way I explain it.
